Nintendo ended the 2020 fiscal year on a considerable positive note. By March 2021, the Japanese giant had sold 28 million Nintendo Switch and Switch Lite consoles. Leading the sales, in terms of games, was the latest installment of Animal Crossing.

Nintendo has published its financial report for the period from April 1 to June 30. The sales of the Nintendo Switch console exceeded 60 million units, and Animal Crossing: New Horizon has reached over 20 million buyers. Thanks to this and excellent digital sales, the company recorded more than fivefold increase in operating profit.

The SuperData analytics group published a report on global digital distribution in March. Last month turned out to be exceptionally good for the market, with great results of Doom Eternal, Half-Life: Alyx and Animal Crossing. The latter production broke the first month's digital sales record for console titles, set by Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII.
