Sunless Sea to get a sequel called Sunless Skies
Sunelss Sea is going to get a sequel called Sunless Skies - and this time we will get to explore space. Before that happens, however, the project will go through a Kickstarter campaign and an Early Access period.
Last year indie studio Failbetter Games gave us Sunless Sea, a steampunk naval exploration game with elements of strategy and RPG, in which you captained a steam ship in an alternative version of the Vicotrian era. Their next project is Sunless Skies, a sequel to that game, announced at EGX 2016 (thanks, Eurogamer), which is going to take us up into space, where the stars are rapidly dying off. Sunless Skies is currently very early in development and the team behind it is planning to run a Kickstarter campaign in February 2017 – this is when we will hear more details about the game – followed by an Early Access period. The final version is to hit PC (Windows, Linux) and Mac.
Sunless Skies is going to expand on all the good parts in Sunless Sea. To be more specific, developers promise more tough choices, great narrative, as well as deep atmosphere. Among their inspirations Failbetter Games name the science-fiction works of H. G. Wells and C. S. Lewis, the planetary romances of Leigh Brackett, Art Nouveau style, and the 1997 horror film Event Horizon. Check out the 7 facts about Sunless Skies.
Speaking of Failbetter Games, Sunless Sea is about to get an expansion, called Zubmariner, whose release date has been set to October 11, 2016. Here is the launch trailer for the DLC:
