PC Version of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Flops
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin has debuted on the market. The first reviews are mediocre, and on top of that the game is said to have big problems on PC.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin, an action RPG by Team Ninja and a spin-off to Square Enix's ultrapopular brand, has been released.
The game is available on PC, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5.
Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin disappoints
Many people waited for the game, but the first reviews and player impressions suggest that the developers failed to live up to expectations.
Reviews of the game in the trade media
- The PS5 version has an average rating of 71% on Metacritic. Other platforms have too few marks for now.
- This is a disappointing result, especially when compared to Team Ninja's previous two action RPGs, namely Nioh (88% on PS4) and Nioh 2 (85% on PlayStation 4).
- Criticism seems to focus mainly on the plot and the characters. Many reviewers also complain about the location designs.
- Even negative reviews contain praise for the combat system, however.

Abysmal quality of the PC version
Unfortunately, on the PC all these problems are accompanied by the poor quality of the port. Players report, among other things:
- poor optimization - on a PC with an i7-9700k and a GeForce RTX 2080 the game struggles to maintain 60 fPS on minimum settings. Another player with a RTX 3070 can't get smooth gameplay at resolutions higher than 1080p.
- The game is supposed to be severely unpolished in terms of visuals - objects only render over short distances, and the image is blurry.
- Large performance drops (e.g. from 120 fps to 50 fps) cause the game to run like in slow motion.
- The game is said to take up 9 GB of VRAM, which can't really be explained by what you happen to see on the screen. This suggests that something went wrong with optimization.
It should be added that there are lucky people about whom the game works well on PC. Overall, however, the quality of the port is poor and it remains to be hoped that the problems will be fixed quickly.
Let us remind you at the end that the PC edition of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is available exclusively on Epic Games Store.
