First Success of New Game From StarCraft 2 Devs; Stormgate Raises Millions
It looks like the developers from Frost Giant Studios don't need to fear for the popularity of their game. After all, it only took 15 minutes for Stormgate to reach its goal on Kickstarter.
The project that the Frost Giant team is working on (it includes the developers responsible for StarCraft II) was known since last June. At that time, during the Summer Game Fest, the devs presented a F2P RTS titled Stormgate.
And although the game is already at an advanced stage of development, the team decided to launch a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in order to raise the necessary funds for the release of a collector's edition for Stormgate.
"We believe that we have prepared a truly unique collector's item for our most devoted fans, but making a collector's edition of Stormgate will require the commitment of our players to cover the costs," explained representatives of Frost Giant (via PC Gamer).
Great must have been the developers' surprise when after just 15 minutes after the start of the fundraiser, the project's account showed the entire amount required, which amounted to a substantial $100 thousand.
Mobilization of fans meant that at the time of writing this message the Kickstarter counter shows that more than 1 million dollars have already been collected. There are still 56 days left until the end of the campaign, so expect a much higher sum.
However, the surplus will not go to waste, as the developers have assured that the additional money will be used to improve the infrastructure and allow for more players to participate in the testing of the game.
"We have also received countless requests for beta access. Conducting online testing for a huge number of people can be very expensive. (...) This campaign will enable us to invite many more players to test Stormgate as a reward for the studio's direct support," the developers announced.
The developers have not yet revealed when we can expect the game's release, but the fundraising page states July 2024 as the expected date for sending pledgers so-called "founder's packs," enabling them to start playing before the start of early access to Stormgate.
