Starfield Player Gives Us Our Own Space Stations; Feature Always Available in Game Code
Thanks to the Spacestations Outposts mod for Starfield, it became possible to create outposts on space stations. Interestingly, the lack of this feature was due to an error by Bethesda - intentional or not.
It turns out that creation of outposts in Starfield should be as easy on the surface of planets as on space stations.
In the game, however, only the former possibility is available. Why? Either because of bugs in the game's code, or because Bethesda intentionally blocked this feature, only to "add" it later on in a DLC.
Whatever the truth, it is already possible to create outposts on orbiting "pieces of metal" - at least on PC. Just download the modification called Spacestations Outposts, made by Nexus Mods user Vex. You can find it on this page.
The mod's creator admitted that he didn't think it would be possible to implement the feature in question before 2024, when Bethesda is expected to release the modding tools. "All the code was already in the game, but a few things were broken, making it not work properly," stated Vox.
The mod doesn't function perfectly, but the author is aware of the errors - related to, among other things, the potential inability to dock or move around the station - and assures that he will make efforts to eliminate them. Meanwhile, community has already begun to toss around ideas for using this feature, such as creating and controlling trade routes or building pirate fleets.
Did Bethesda really intend to add the discussed option in any of the DLCs for Starfield - such as in the announced Shattered Space - or is their absence a consequence of one of the many mistakes made by Todd Howard's team? It is possible that the latter will comment on the whole matter soon.
Starfield is available on PC and XSX/S. The game also hit the PC/Xbox Game Pass service on launch day. Our review can be found below.
