Starfield Took Another Step Toward Skyrim With Mod Support Changes
Bethesda fixed some serious bugs related to the official mod system, but in the process, unfortunately, blocked the uploading of a certain type of files to the Creation Club.
The official modding tools for Starfield, known as Creation Kit, were finally released in early June. Furthermore, the RPG has been included in the Creation Club service, which is the official platform for distributing mods for games from this team. Technical issues weren't avoided, as is typical with Bethesda studio projects. Some of them are solved by the latest update.
Hotfix for Starfield
A patch is also known as a hotfix, which is a small update designed to fix errors, but the changes it introduces are significant.
- The issue causing the game to freeze while trying to load a save with a removed mod has been resolved.
- The issue causing the Microsoft Store to open after using the quick resume feature has been fixed.
- The purchase system for Credits (currency used to acquire paid mods in Creation Club) has been improved when using Steam.
- The buttons in the Creation Store now display correctly when using the large font mode.
- Moreover, in the Creation Kit editor, the problem with applying keywords to newly created folders has been resolved.
Bethesda introduces restrictions for mods in Creation Club
Additionally, an important change was introduced regarding the mods themselves. From now on, you cannot upload mods with modified .ini files to Creation Club. The reason is that they were causing technical problems - for instance, they resulted in audio errors on Xbox consoles. Bethesda is consulting with mod creators who use modified .ini files about how to maintain their functionality without the need to upload such elements.
Such a change is disappointing because it limits the freedom of creators, but in practice, it's nothing new. In the case of Skyrim, it is exactly the same, and you cannot upload modified .ini files there either. The Creation Club is simply intended for less complicated projects that are supposed to work smoothly on consoles as well. For more complex modifications, you will typically have to visit the Nexus Mods service.
Starfield was released on PC, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The game is also available in the Game Pass subscription on all these platforms.
