Starfield has Most Dialogue Lines in Bethesda's History, But Duct Tape Stole the Show
Thanks to a new video, we have learned quite a lot about the dialogue system in Starfield. Internet users do not hide their appreciation, but at the same time point out a small element.
Bethesda has launched a video series designed to make the wait for the release of Starfield more pleasant. In the first episode, CEO Todd Howard answered the most frequently asked questions from the fans, so we learned some interesting things about the game.
- At the moment Starfield has 250 thousand lines of dialogue, making the game a record-breaker among Bethesda productions. By comparison - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim had about 60 thousand lines, and Fallout 4 - 110 thousand.
- The video also shows the dialogue system in action. The devs decided to return to more classic solutions, where we will simply select statements from a list.
- On top of that, there will be a persuasion mechanic integrated into the dialogue system, enabling us to spend points in order to convince the interlocutor of our reasons.
- We also learned that the amount of fuel we have will determine the maximum distance we will cover during FTL travel. In contrast, we will never run out of fuel once we reach our destination. This is not exactly a realistic solution, but without it, the game would end the moment the tank empties. Initially this is how it was implemented, but the devs decided that it was not a good idea in terms of enjoying the gameplay.
- Among the sources of inspiration for Starfield the devs mentioned the computer game SunDog: Frozen Legacy from the 1980s, and the tabletop RPG Traveller.
The video brought more than new information. Many players expressed joy at the presented information, but at the same time they were amused by one of the characters shown in the video, who sealed the holes in his space helmet with duct tape (this can be seen in the screenshot attached to the message). Some fans laugh at this, while others humorously point out that some types of tape could work in this role.
Starfield is scheduled for release in the first half of next year. The game is headed for PC and Xbox Series X/S and will be available through Game Pass from launch day.
