Less than two weeks separate us from the release of Starfield, Bethesda's next big RPG. The game is sometimes jokingly referred to (even by Todd Howard) as "Skyrim in space." However, the head of the Xbox division, Phil Spencer, believes that it more resembles another classic position from this developer.

  1. Phil Spencer claims that Starfield is closer to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion than to TESV: Skyrim.
  2. He came to these conclusions after spending about 200 hours in Starfield, playing with more than a dozen different characters.
  3. Phil Spencer did not explain exactly what he had in mind, so we can only speculate on this point. Oblivion however, is considered by many players to be a game with more interesting characters and better realized interactions with them, as well as better adventures, especially those related to specific factions.
  4. Of course, it's just as well that Spencer may simply be jokingly referring to the character of main protagonist's big fan. He first appeared in Oblivion and we know that he will return in Starfield.

Recall that Starfield is headed for PC, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. The release is scheduled for September 6, this year. The title will simultaneously be available in Game Pass subscriptions on both PC and Xbox consoles.

It is worth mentioning that those who have purchased Starfield: Premium Edition will gain access to the game earlier - they will start playing as early as September 1.
