Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting an Unreal 4-powered reboot
Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron is an upcoming fan-made reboot of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Developers from Poem Studios are planning to remake the cult RPG with Unreal 4-powered graphics and extra content.
All Star Wars fans, gather round, for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is getting a remake. An unofficial remake, but still. The cult RPG released in 2003 will get a full reboot entitled Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron. The team behind the project is an indie gaming group Poem Studios devoted to pouring new life into the BioWare’s legendary title. The remake will feature brand new graphics powered by Unreal Engine 4 and fresh content. Since the rights for selling the game were passed on to Disney after LucasArts dissolved, the remake will be distributed for free.
In terms of content, Knights of the Old Republic: Apeiron will offer more than the original game, including new worlds, missions, items, and companions, as well as remastered HUD and inventory. There is no information if and how gameplay itself will change – whether it is still going to feature tactical combat with active pause or change it for an action-based system. The first screenshots suggest switching the perspective to first-person, but it’s probably too early to say that for sure.
It is still unknown when Apeiron will be out and which platforms will it hit. We hope the game will be at least as successful as Black Mesa was in bringing back the first Half-Life. See the project’s website for more info on the upcoming remake.
