Ambitious Star Wars: KOTOR Fans Recreate Cut-scenes on Unreal Engine 5
Remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic still exists only in rumors. For now, fans must do with the project by Unreal Cinema group, which recreates the cutscenes from the game on Unreal Engine 5.
There aren't many Star Wars titles that gained such iconic status as the video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. For many, it's still the best production from the universe, and one of those titles that can't be ignored when listing the greatest games of all time. Probably that's why Unreal Cinema YouTube channel has taken on the task of recreating the cut-scenes from the first KOTOR on Unreal Engine 5.
The project was revealed a few months ago and during that time we received some footage of its production. The latest fragment (posted above) presented the animations of Trask Ulgo and a handful of elements and effects prepared for the "movie". The hosts of the YouTube channel also confirmed that their work has been given the green light by Lucasfilm Games, albeit with some restrictions. Authors can't use footage from the movies, organize a community fundraiser or use any form of monetization. They must also clearly emphasize that this is an unofficial, fan production. In other words, there is little concern about them being forced to stop work on the project due to the intervention of lawyers.
The Unreal Cinema miniseries will consist of about 30 episodes, 10-15 minutes long, and the first of them should appear at the end of summer. While Lucasfilm Games has advised that the artists cannot use crowdfunding to fund the project, you can always support them through Patreon (or join the team). It's unlikely to bring closer the moment when we finally get a sequel (or even a remake, as mentioned in relatively reliable rumors) of Knights of the Old Republic but it's better than nothing.
