Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Director on Combat and Exploration System

We learned new details about the upcoming Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Special combat stances will come to the game and the exploration is to be more interesting thanks to, among other things, the possibility of using a grappling hook.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order has been announced in May 2022. Since then, the latest Star Wars game has went off the radar, until this month.

In early December, during The Game Awards 2022, we saw a gameplay trailer of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, which revealed the game's release date.

Now we've learned more details about the upcoming sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The some light was shed on the game by its director, Stig Asmussen, who in an interview for GameInformer revealed some of the novelties.

Combat and attitudes

Asmussen confessed that due to Survivor taking place five years after the events of Fallen Order the main character, Cal Kestis, is already an experienced swordsman. This enables Cal to use five "fully realized" combat stances. Each of them is designed to be particularly effective against specific opponents.

"Much depends on the enemy you encounter. It's advantageous to use certain types of stances against certain types of enemies, and it's up to the player to figure it out."

Certain stances assume the use of specific weapons. Thus, one of them will allow for fighting with two swords, while another with a combination of blaster and lightsaber.

Interestingly, the game will also include a lightsaber with a crossed hilt guard similar to the one used by Kylo Ren in the movies - this weapon will also have a dedicated fighting stance.

Old and new friends

In the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will see the return of well-liked characters such as BD-1 and Cere Junda. Asmussen revealed that Cal's team will also feature new faces, such as mercenary Bode Akuna, who will share a special bond with the hero. Akuna is not only to be a fictional companion, but at certain points he is expected to help the protagonist in both combat and exploration.

Improved exploration

Quite a few novelties are expected in exploration mechanics. A grappling hook will be put at the players' disposal, which will improve their mobility. It does not end there, because Kestis from a certain point will be able to acquire an ability that will enables him to ride various fantastic mounts.

When overcoming obstacles, it will be important to combine previously acquired skills and tools to pave a path to important points.

"It's an approach much closer to Metroidvania. Cal can travel vast distances by combining several types of skills."

If all goes according to plan, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will arrive as early as March 17, 2023. The latest game from the Star Wars universe is headed for PS5, PC and XSX/S.
