Fans of single-player action games should keep an eye on the activities of the newly established Giant Skull studio. Today, it was revealed that industry veterans (via Game Informer) are joining the team founded by Stig Asmussen, the director of well-received games such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, raising hopes for a solid production.
Veterans join forces
Giant Skull employs, among others, Jeff Magers (design director of SW Jedi: Survivor and co-founder of Giant Skull), Patrick Murphy (artistic director of Fortnite and Valorant), Lauren McLemore (lead producer at Epic Games), and Jon Carr (technical director at Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment).
As for Stig Asmussen, in addition to the Star Wars Jedi series, he has directed many well-known games, such as older installments of the God of War series and Mortal Kombat. Let us remind you that he left the Respawn Entertainment team in September last year to "go his own way" -- now we know which one.
Giant Skull bets on singleplayer games
The CEO of Giant Skull describes the new company as follows:
We have assembled a talented team renowned for immersive storytelling, heroic combat, and exhilarating traversal, and our goal is to craft a rich universe that players will want to lose themselves in for years to come.
The Giant Skull studio aims to provide "engaging narrative-driven experiences" taking place "in enchanting worlds," despite Asmussen's words potentially suggesting a service game. After all, the studio is led by individuals who contributed to the creation of the storylines for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor.
The first game of Giant Skull will be a high-budget (AAA) action game intended for a single player. It's being developed on Unreal Engine 5 and will likely offer a third-person perspective. We have to wait for the studio's official announcements and hope that it will deliver solid titles to players in the future.
