Insider Reveals Why Star Wars Battlefront 3 Won't be Made
Well-known insider Tom Henderson revealed why Electronic Arts has not greenlit the Star Wars: Battlefront 3 project. The problem is the high cost of Disney licensing.
- DICE wanted to start work on Star Wars: Battlefront 3;
- Electronic Arts refused to do so because of Disney's expensive licensing fees.
DICE wanted to start work on Star Wars: Battlefront 3 however, Electronic Arts did not agree and the project went to the trash. The reason, according to the well-known insider Tom Henderson, was the high cost of licensing, which would require the game to sell 20% better than titles from franchises owned by EA to pay for itself.
Star Wars: Battlefront 3 rumors have been appearing from time to time, so we can suspect that something was on the table. However, according to the insider, DICE is reportedly working on the next installment of the Battlefield series, which is in the prototype phase.
According to Henderson, the development of a third Battlefront is not impossible. However, due to the fact that the people responsible for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 (creative director Dennis Bränvall, core gameplay designer Christian Johannesé and chief designer of characters Guillaume Mroz) left the team, it is unlikely.
For many, Electronic Arts' decision may seem very strange. Star Wars: Battlefront 2, after many updates, is appreciated by fans of the series. So much so that at one time there was a petition asking for a DLC that players were willing to pay for. When the game was available for free on Epic Games Store, it was played by 19 million users of this platform, which shows the gigantic potential that lies in this franchise.
