Square Enix is Not Against Resurrecting More Old RPGs
Square Enix is probably preparing for players the next refreshes of its classic titles. This topic was raised at the company's annual shareholder meeting.
Currently, many admirers of Final Fantasy are playing the latest, sixteenth installment of the series, but there have been rumors about potential refreshes of other games from the brand by Square Enix. This issue was brought up at the company's recent shareholder meeting.
Will Square Enix refresh other older titles?
From the emerging information it appears that one of the attendees of Square Enix's investor meeting pointed out the positive reception of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster (a set containing the first six installments of the series), which was released this April for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch (previously on PC and smartphones). This prompted him to ask about the possibility of Square Enix refreshing other older titles.
In response company's representative revealed that the publisher is said to be considering various options, without revealing any specific titles, however. He only expressed the hope that shareholders would look forward to further announcements on the matter.
FF IX remake and return to FF Tactics
Although no titles were revealed, we can guess what RPGs are under consideration. Among them is likely to be Xenogears from 1998 (this was the hope expressed by one of the shareholders) or at least Final Fantasy Tactics from 2007. The appearance of the latter was already heralded by Nvidia's famous leak from 2021.
It is worth adding that Square Enix is also said to be in the process of developing a remake of Final Fantasy IX - considered one of the best entries in the entire series. Jeff Grubb, however notes, that this refresh would be similar to Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, which hits the market in December 2022, rather than a game created completely from scratch.
