Funny Mishap in New Final Fantasy
The release of Crisis Core Final Fantasy VII Reunion is taking place in the shadow of a funny mishap. One of the graphic designers certainly didn't think his decision through.
The game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion,, a remaster of the 2008 game, has launched yesterday. The game collects decent ratings from reviewers, but it seems that the Internet users' attention was more attracted to a peculiar image found in the game.
A close-up shows that the fishy "artwork", which can be seen in one of the locations, has a watermark, sourced from a well-known image bank - Getty Images.
Some players jokingly ask whether the graphic designer who placed the watermarked image in the game has already paid the original creator.
While the issue of the image placed in the game seems rather trivial, it unfortunately indicates a certain sloppiness on the part of the developers, who certainly can't say that they took care of every possible detail.
The return of a legend from PSP
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion is not an entirely new game. It's an expanded remaster of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII - a 2008 game that originally debuted exclusively on the PlayStation Portable (PSP) console.
The refreshed version of Crisis Core has already been released on modern platforms such as PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series S/X.
Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion, serving as a prequel to Final Fantasy VII, however, is no ordinary remaster - in addition to improved visuals, the game also features fully voiced dialogues in English and Japanese, as well as a new soundtrack arranged by the original's creator, Takeharu Ishimoto. Minor changes also included other aspects of the game, such as the combat system, which was brought up to today's standards.
A successful remaster
Despite the bizarre situation described at the beginning of the text, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion seems to be a really solid game, as evidenced by reviewers' ratings.
- IGN - 8/10
- PC Gamer - 86/100
- Hardcore Gamer - 4/5
- Xbox Era - 8.5/10
- GameSpot - 8/10
- Metro GameCentral - 4/10
At this point the game boasts an average rating of 84% on PC and 78% on PS5.
Reviewers praise the new installment primarily for improved combat model, good graphics, as well as excellent technical condition. On the other hand, the main objection to the remaster is its antiquity in several aspects - especially when it comes to side quests or numerous loading screens.
At the very end, a little treat for fans of the universe. The official youtube channel of the series posted a short video, showing the process of carving the distinctive Buster Sword in wood, and in a Christmas theme. Admittedly, the end result is impressive.
