'World's Most Authentic Second World War Shooter' Rebranded to Squad 44; Trailer and List of New Features
Squad 44 is the new title of WWII FPS Post Scriptum, which also got new developers, an update and a trailer.
After more than five years Post Scriptum changes its title to Squad 44. This will also entail change of game's forum on Reddit (via Steam).
Below we have posted the game's trailer that the new developers released to mark the occasion.
The announcement was received by players with relief. By November the future Post Scriptum was uncertain due to the situation at the original developer. Periscope Games was to have unexpectedly laid off the de facto entire staff after last year's Christmas holidays.
Fortunately, last month we learned that the rights to the project had been bought by Offworld Industries (the game's publisher), which handed over custody to Mercury Arts. Today, as promised, development plans were revealed for Squad 44.
Of course, the change of the game's title is a small thing, although this alone pleases fans of the project (which, after all, began life as a mod for Squad). Nevertheless, the announcements do not end there.
- Mercury Arts has released update v0.1.0.227771, and with it a new battle map (Battle of Rethymno) featuring Greek and Australian soldiers and 8 weapons: 4 rifles, 2 pistols, a knife and the Brixia light mortar.
- The patch also includes a handful of improvements (including optimization), although there aren't many of those.
Nevertheless, Post Scriptum's return under a new name was enough to get the most people to enter the game since December 2021. Admittedly, the record of users playing at the same time at 1,450 players can hardly be considered a spectacular success, but this is still more than three times the results of the last six months.
Nevertheless, some fans are tempering their own enthusiasm (vide youtuber MoiDawg, who has been in contact with the developers and the publisher for the past two months; it is to him that we owe a lot of information about the resurrection of Post Sctriptum). Players hope that it will not end with a name change and one update, as the developer announces.
