Sony's Game Services Will Be Coming Out Simultaneously on PC and Playstation. While Story Game Sequels Are Expected to Encourage PC Players to Buy Consoles
Game services from Sony will be released simultaneously on consoles and PC. Single-player titles, on the other hand, are to appear on PC with a delay and serve as an invitation to buy a PlayStation 5.
During a recent business meeting with Sony representatives, we learned a bit about the company's strategy for delivering games to various platforms. It shows that the PC market is a significant component of the Japanese giant's future development plans.
Games-services and single player games
According to the words spoken by Hermen Hulst - one of the two future co-CEOs of PlayStation - game services, such as Helldivers 2, will debut simultaneously on consoles and PC. This decision should come as no surprise, given the immense popularity that this title has gained.
Games focusing on single-player gameplay have been showing up on PCs for some time now, albeit with a delay compared to consoles. According to Hulst, this strategy will remain unchanged. The company wants PC gamers who liked Sony's games to feel the desire to buy a PlayStation 5 and in this way get acquainted with their sequels.
The PC community doesn't quite see the point in such a strategy, as expressed in the comments under the post on X:
Entice PC players to spend another $500 on a system weaker than the one they prefer to play on.
Okay.
Lol.
Yeah, if I'm on a PC I'm not buying a console to just play the sequel. Make it for the PC as well and then you get my money.
This strategy makes 0 sens.
PC players will just wait.
It's also worth noting that at the same conference, the company described PlayStation 5 as the "most profitable generation of consoles." So it seems that the strategy implemented by Sony is working and bringing visible profits.
