Sony Doesn't Intend to Speed Up PC Porting; Gamers Allegedly Agree

Sony wants more PC ports, but they will not be prioritized. For Jim Ryan, what matters most are the games released on the PS5.

Sony apparently understood that it's worth releasing games on PC. The Japanese intend to increase the number of ports that come out on PC, but that doesn't mean that owners of the company's consoles - particularly the PS5 - will regret buying them.

Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE), said in an interview with Famitsuthat he "understands the relevance of PS5 exclusive titles." Therefore:

"The main task of developers in the PlayStation Studios family is to make an effort so that people can enjoy a game on the latest PlayStation console. So we are increasing the number of PS5 "exclusives" and delaying the release of their PC versions."

Some owners of PS5s will certainly appreciate this approach. PC players not so much, as many of them may want to know the further adventures of Kratos or Aloy. Unfortunately, although God of War from 2018 and Horizon: Zero Dawn have been released on PC, their sequels - God of War: Ragnarok and Horizon: Forbidden West - are only available on PS4 and PS5 for now.

"I often have the opportunity to ask fans for their opinions. And when I ask them about the delays [of the PC versions of Sony's exclusive titles - ed. note], they answer that selling them two-three years after their release on PlayStation is viewed positively."

Leaving aside the fact that SIE is making quite a bit of money on the PC ports of its games, PC gamers are still better off than they were a few years ago, when Sony exclusive titles were not coming to the the platform at all. Slightly misrepresenting the words of Terry Pratchett, then, it can be said that only patience separates us from chopping down more Norse gods with an axe.
