Marvel's Spider-Man 2 is Sony's New Fastest-selling Game
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 has taken over the title of the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game from in the history of the platform. Sony shared the results.
Last week saw the debut of another major PlayStation 5 exclusive, Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The continuation of the adventures of Peter Parker and Miles Morales was very warmly received by the critics, which may have prompted many gamers to purchase the game. Fans were indeed interested in returning to New York and confronting Venom, as they already threw themselves into the game on the day of its release.
Sony boasted on X/Twitter of the initial sales results of Marvel's Spider-Man 2. Within the first 24 hours after release the game was purchased by more than 2.5 million people. This gave it the title of the fastest-selling game from PlayStation Studios in the history of Sony consoles.
It is worth comparing the new installment starring Spidey(s) to the previous game in the series. We know that the first game from 2018, within three days of its release found 3.3 million buyers. As many as one million people preordered and Marvel's Spider-Man became the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive. It then beat the score of God of War, and has now been surpassed by the second Spider-Man.
The standalone expansion for the first part also did quite well - Miles Morales. In a little over a month after its release, the game was purchased by 4.1 million players.
According to data from 2020, the first game found more than 20 million recipients on PS4. The game hit the PC after a few years and became the fastest-selling Sony port on PC. Miles Morales has also been released on PC, and we expect that Spider-Man 2 will also become available in some time.
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 made its debut on October 20 on the PS5 console. It's worth mentioning that many people could not install the game from the disc, and the day one update was said to have caused minor problems (among other visual issues).
