Solasta: Crown of the Magister With Good Opening on Steam
A few days ago, Solasta: Crown of the Magister launched on Steam. The game left early access and apparently hit the fancy of many players. It appears to be a great RPG in the vein of Baldur's Gate.
Solasta: Crown of the Magister is an isometric tactical single player RPG. The action takes place in a fantasy universe and the mechanics are based on the 5th edition of Dungeons & Dragons. The title officially debuted on Steam on May 27th and in the last twenty-four hours it reached highest number of players since launch - 8,291 people simultaneously.
So far Solasta collects mostly favorable reviews. We have just over 4 thousand reviews of the game on Valve's store, and as much as 91% of them are positive.
"This is the most "D&D 5th Edition" game I've seen so far. I don't know why other games struggle to capture the feeling of D&D, but Solasta makes it look easy. If you enjoy 5e and want a video game that captures that feeling, this is the only choice right here."(…)

"If you liked the old Temple of Elemental Evil PC game you should get Solasta."

"This one's a winner. I've been craving another solid tactical RPG ever since I played Divinity: Original Sin 2 (which I assume all of you have if you're here). While this game isn't quite the same, it's nevertheless an extremely well put together product. The combat feels right, with tactical decisions mattering and a nice suite of abilities. (...) I do like what's on offer. (…)"

"It's safe to say this is the first true DnD 5E (or more accurately SRD 5.1) adaptation as a full computer roleplaying game, and I love it. The close attention to every detail in the tabletop ruleset and the dedication to implement it as faithfully as possible on this platform is utterly delightful to someone like me. (…)"

"(…) Solasta is a dungeon crawler based on 5e Dungeons and Dragons - with all the simplicity and linearity that entails. If you are looking for an RPG of any sort, look elsewhere. There is no actual choice to be had, world reactivity, or role-playing to be had here, your choices are all concerning your character sheets and how those stats interact with enemies in combat (or occasionally avoiding combat with some potential bosses) as well as a few examinations of lore that are not really meaningful to how you play the game (…)"

So it seems that Solasta: Crown of the Magister is a game that old-school RPG lovers will fall in love with, but not necessarily a title for all fans of modern digital entertainment. Currently, the game is discounted by 20% on Steam. So if you've been staying up late at night playing Baldur's Gate and then Divinity: Original Sin 2, you can confidently reach for this position.
