The indie game show The Triple-I Initiative 2024 kicked off with a bang. The second installment of the roguelike Slay the Spire was announced at the very beginning . By the way, the game's atmospheric trailer was also revealed (below), revealing that the game is set to be released in early access in 2025.

The trailer for the sequel to the acclaimed combination of a card game and roguelike doesn't show any gameplay, but it does disclose two crucial pieces of information. First, the title will retain its original cartoonish art style. Second, familiar character archetypes, such as Silent and Ironclad, will make a comeback in the game. Moreover, at the end you can also spot a mysterious figure, which is The Necrobinder, a new playable starting class.

We can find out a bit more information about Slay the Spire 2 from the game card on Steam. The game is set to take place 1,000 years after the events of the first installment, so it's no surprise that we can expect completely new treasures, bosses, and events as announced by the developers.

The laconic description of the title also reveals that the whole will be divided into acts, at the end of which we will face powerful "bosses." Furthermore, the devs pledge greater freedom and configuration options for "builds" than in the first installment.

What is perhaps most interesting, is that Slay the Spire 2 was developed on a new engine - Godot (the first installment of the series was made on Unity). The developers abandoned this second technology after last year's controversies related to fees.
