Sign of Times in PS Store. Journalist Counts Bestsellers of Microsoft and Sony, Draws Interesting Conclusions
Until recently, this was unthinkable, but from the observations of a journalist from TweakTown, it seems that lately the top of the most popular games in the PlayStation Store are often „occupied” by Microsoft titles.
Microsoft's new approach to sharing its games on other platforms appears to be yielding significant results for the Redmond giant. Proof of this is the PlayStation Store platform's bestsellers list, where you could recently find more titles from the American publisher than those from Sony. Derek Strickland, a journalist from the Australian website TweakTown, made a surprising observation.
From the chart he prepared, we can read that out of 25 games posted there in the regional version of the PS Store, seven titles were from the Microsoft library (as of April 18 this year). These included games such as Call of Duty: MW3, Overwatch 2, Minecraft, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves. It's worth noting that the last two games were released on PS5 due to a change in the aforementioned strategy of Microsoft releasing games on platforms other than PC and Xbox.
As for Sony, only five titles from the Japanese giant were included in the list. These are MLB The Show 24, Helldivers 2, Destiny 2, Stellar Blade, and Rise of the Ronin.
The composition of the bestseller list depends on factors such as the region it covers and the time in which it was compiled. Either way, we could venture to say that there is a kind of symbiosis between Microsoft and Sony. The ability of Americans to use the Sony platform to reach new customers turned out to be beneficial for both parties.
