Shatterline Impressed FPS Fans, But Devs Faced Many Adversities
The FPS Shatterline has debuted on Steam's early access. The game from the Ukrainian studio Frag Lab is collecting rather positive reviews, and the developers are constantly fixing bugs reported by the community.
Shooter Shatterline debuted in Steam's early access. The game by the independent studio Frag Lab from Ukraine appealed to fans of the genre, despite the fact that it did not lack bugs. However, the developers have quite a lot of time to polish the FPS, which will come out of early access on February 9, 2023.
What is Shatterline?
It's a free-to-play online shooter, in which duels are fought in arenas. Shatterline offers PvP gameplay on a variety of maps and in modes such as Team Deathmatch, Bomb Planting, Capture the Flag and Escort.
In addition, it is possible to play in co-op. This gameplay mode takes place in PvE format, which in Shatterline can be found under the name Expedition. In contrast to the arena shooter, here the game is more reminiscent of rougelike titles.
As in Apex Legends or Overwatch, Shatterline offers eight characters, called Operators. The game features 25 weapons, which can be modified with extensions.
Mixed reviews
On Steam, reviews of the game vary. Some appreciate the debut title of Frag Lab, while others complain about bugs during login or poor rewards in Expedition mode.
"It's good for being free and in early access. The launch isn't perfect, but the game has potential.
There are many bugs, so I'm waiting for the developers to fix the game. If the bugs and other serious problems continue in the 1.0 release, while the in-game store is working, I will change the review to negative," wrote. Larzech.
"Finally an FPS that brings some freshness to the genre. I hope this game will get as much hype and attention as it deserves, so the developers will polish it up. I highly recommend it," wrote MystrSee.
"This game is really amazing, I grew up playing shooters like CoD and Destiny, and now I play games like Valorant. This title is a great mix of them. It has a system that is neither pay-to-play nor pay-to-win and a super PvE mode that you can play when you want to take a break from sending kids to the shadow realm, this game has it all," wrote futur3devil.
Frag Lab fixes bugs in no time
The developers were quick to respond to criticism and even on the day of release Shatterline received a patch. Although the server problems turned out to be more serious than the developers thought, the game has already fixed progression in the Season Pass, a bug in Expedition mode and doubled Blueprint rewards in Expedition mode.
Interestingly, Frag Lab did not expect so many people to test their game, especially since, as they themselves wrote on Steam - they are making the game during a tough time for their country.
"We are Frag Lab, an independent development studio located in Kiev, Ukraine. We never imagined that we would be developing Shatterline in the middle of a war..."
Still, Frag Lab is focused on fine-tuning the game, and assured on Twitter that they are doing what they can to expand the servers to accommodate all willing players.
