This Strategic RPG With Rats Sucks in Like a Swamp; Steam is Impressed
This RPG with elements of tactical strategy has received a very enthusiastic reception on Steam. Players praise both the gameplay and the unique atmosphere of Shardpunk: Verminfall.
Recent weeks on Steam have been filled with launches of the latest games from major developers. However, it should not be forgotten that a lot of smaller titles were also released in the same time period. One of them, titled Shardpunk: Verminfall, turned out to be a real gem.
Shardpunk: Verminfall - basic info
The game is a tactical / strategic RPG with a turn-based combat system, in which the gameplay is enriched with significant survival elements.
The action of the game takes place in a steampunk universe, which has been overrun by hordes of humanoid rats. At the start of the game, humanity has already lost the war, and our task is only to save as many people as possible.
- Shardpunk: Verminfall launched on April 13. The game is available exclusively on PC.
- The game can be purchased on Steam and GOG for $11, 10% off to celebrate the release. On April 20, it will be raised to $12.
The game was appreciated by Steam users
Shardpunk: Verminfall is a niche game, so it's no big surprise that it can't boast high activity scores. The current record is 547 concurrent players on Steam. Those gamers who decided to purchase the game, however, are delighted. The game currently has 167 reviews on this service, 95 of which praise the game, which is categorized as a "very positive" reception.
- Players like the combat system and the high but fair difficulty level.
- The execution and atmosphere are also praised.
- Criticism is mainly limited to minor problems with the legibility of some graphics and the fact that towards the end of the campaign the gameplay gets a bit repetitive.
Below we cite some sample reviews.
"A great game, distilling combat in the style of XCOM to the most enjoyable elements. It's challenging and requires thought, but is never unfair or random."
"The game is enjoyable and very unforgiving. Shardpunk: Verminfall is what you get when you mix XCOM and Darkest Dungeon and throw in some Skaven. (...) If you like turn-based games and high difficulty levels, give this game a chance! Although it is unforgiving at times, it is a very, very good game!"
"One of the best turn-based tactical games I've played. If you were a Laser Squad fan some 30 years ago, you will love this game."
