The best Scarlet Nexus mods
It’s been two weeks since Scarlet Nexus launched. It’s a good moment to check out the first mods for this RPOG. There’s a couple definitely worth your attention.
Scarlet Nexus turned out to be one of the most pleasant surprises of June. As far as Bandai Namco games go, most people were focusing their attention on the upcoming Tales of Arise. We didn’t expect Scarlet Nexus to end up becoming one of the top pretenders for best action-RPG of 2021. So we thought it would be a good idea to do a quick write-up about the best mods released so far.
Unfortunately, Scarlet Nexus didn’t come with modding tools, so we’re unlikely to ever see full-blown new adventures. We can however expect smaller, but still worthwhile projects. What helps is that the game is running on Unreal Engine 4 and uses similar tech and file structure to previous Bandai Namco games. Therefore fans could use the skills garnered while modding older titles.
It’s been only two weeks since launch, so there not a huge variety of mods, but there are a couple that are definitely worth your attention.
Some of the creators have graciously given us permission to host the mods’ mirrors on our FTP, in other cases we’re just providing you with links to projects’ websites.
Improved Visuals and Fix / Improved Visuals
Next we want to bring your attention to two similar projects that tweak game’s and engine’s settings to make the graphics better. Despite their names, both are separate mods from two different creators. Use just one of them.
Improved Visuals and Fix
This mod fixes TAA ghosting (when you move the camera on your character, you see ghost image of it, it's fixed now) and enables cinematic visuals effect (ie. highest quality preset possible), it also enables supersampling. It’s less extensive of the two mods, but also less demanding hardware-wise.
Improved visuals
This mod enables 16x anisotropic filtering (game normally only allows up to 8x) and tonemapper sharpening. It increases Increased view/LOD distances of meshes, foliage, lights and lowers MIPS level of models and ground, as well as improves textures across the whole game. It also forces the game to use the highest light quality, doubles sample count used for Bloom & DoF and increases emitter (fog/smoke) spawn rate
Scarlet Nexus Ultrawide Fix
Ultrawide monitors are becoming increasingly common hardware on pcgamers’ desks, but many developers still fail to provide support for screens of this type. That’s why we’re grateful for people like WT3WD, who provide unofficial solutions to this problem.
Just as the name suggests, Scarlet Nexus Ultrawide Fix allows you to play in 21:9 resolutions. Currently, the project supports:
- 2560x1080
- 3440x1440
- 5120x1440
It’s worth noting that it’s one of many WT3WD’s projects of this type. He created ultrawide fixes for games like Dragon Ball Z Kakarot, Battletoads . Samurai Jack: Battle Through Time, Little Nightmares II, Shenmue III or Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time. In some cases the devs’ eventually add official support for 21:9, but often this modder’s work remains the only solution available. So hats off to you WT3DW!
Working DualSense AND PlayStation Buttons
Another project worth checking out is Working DualSense AND PlayStation Buttons. It’s a simple mod that’s a lifesaver for anyone trying to use PlayStation 5 pad on PC version of Scarlet Nexus. If you are using a DualSense controller, you're most likely either have to see Xbox buttons in game or end up messed up controls.
These mod fixes those problems, allowing you to comfortably play with a DualSense controller, have the right controls AND have it show PlayStation buttons in your game.
Customizable Hard Mode Difficulty
The game is too easy for you? Use Customizable Hard Mode Difficulty. This mod allows customization of the damage dealt/damage received multipliers on Hard difficulty. it was designed to make the game more challenging, but you can use it also to lower those multipliers and make Scarlet Nexus easier.
