Warning! The following contains spoilers from the anime and manga Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen is a series that enjoys considerable popularity, so it has a large fan base that doesn’t lack passion. Particularly when it comes to the fate of their favorite characters, such as Satoru Gojo, whom they unfortunately had to say goodbye to after he lost the battle with Sukuna. The hero was mourned by fans, who even made altars to him in various cities around the world.

All the while, however, there was small hope that Gojo would return. After all, returns from dad are nothing new in anime and manga, and even in JJK they have happened. That's why everyone hoped that the author Gege Akutami wouldn’t get rid of his most popular character forever and was preparing some kind of return for him.

These theories turned out to be true, as fans of Jujutsu Kaisen found out in the 260th chapter of the manga. However, leaks of the latest, 261st chapter of the manga showed that the series creator decided to bring back Gojo in a disappointing way that didn’t please fans of the character.

What happened to Satoru Gojo in the chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen?

Namely, it turned out that Satoru Gojo's body is now controlled by his disciple, Yuta Okkotsu, with the help of a cursed technique that Kenjaku had previously used to take over people's bodies. To enable him to do so, Rika devoured Kenjaku's head, part of a plan devised even before Gojo's death. Leaks from chapter 261 showed that there is a distinctive scar on Gojo's forehead.

In the materials available from this chapter, it is shown that Yuta shared his teacher's fate – his body was also cut in half, but he survived long enough to transfer his consciousness to Gojo's body, which he now uses. As it turns out, Yuta's takeover of Gojo's body was planned from the beginning – this was to be their final solution if all others failed in the clash with Sukuna, who must be stopped at all costs.

The heroes, finding themselves against the wall, had to step up to it and Yuta, in Gojo's body, entered the battlefield to once again face Sukuna, whose duel, or at least the beginning of it, we can see in the chapter 261.

How long Yuta will be able to control Satoru's body remains uncertain. The possibilities are three:

  • If Kenjaku’s CT is passive or lasts for a certain amount of time, Yuta won’t be able to maintain his body or soul and will die after 5 minutes.
  • If Kenjaku’s CT is intermittent, Yuta won’t die immediately, but will eventually die.
  • If Kenjaku's CT is single use, meaning it can only be activated once, then Yuta will stay in Gojo's body forever.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s fans reaction to chapter 261

Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen aren’t happy that not only did their favorite character not return, but he was also treated in this way. They criticize the manga's creator, as well as other characters in the series, who chose to allow Gojo's body to be used in this way. JJK fans note that Satoru was used from birth as a weapon not only during his lifetime, but also after his death.

In chapter 261, however, there was a conversation between Yuta and Satoru regarding how he feels about the plan. He stated that he had no problem with his body being taken over, adding "Who cares what happens to his body after death?". Confidence may have been speaking through him, however, given that at that moment he was sure that he will win.
