Same Price, Different Content - Xbox Fans Mad at Marvel's Avengers
Less than a month before the launch of Marvel's Avengers, the devs struck a nerve of the community. The outrage was caused by the fact that Spider-Man will only be available on PlayStation 4 and PS5.
Square Enix recently announced that Spider-Man will be a playable character in Marvel's Avengers, but he will only appear on PS4 and PS5. The superhero will be added to the releases for these platforms as part of an update. It's been a long time since the fact was revealed to analyze the community's reaction to the news. No one will be surprised that the players are not pleased.
Many people have become accustomed to various exclusive agreements, but for games from independent publishers they are usually limited in time. In this case it's different and there is no indication that Spider-Man will ever make it to Marvel's Avengers on other platforms. No wonder that the players are angry. Many of them are calling for a boycott, in which they are seconded by some PS4 owners.
The situation is illustrated very well by Reddit user gnarley_quinn, using a simple graphic showing that playing on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will cost the same amount of money, but one of them will have less content.
There is no shortage of fatalistic voices that doubt the effectiveness of the boycott action, claiming that the Avengers brand is too strong for such actions to be successful.
We liked the funny suggestion of one of the fans, who said that in versions for other hardware platforms, the creators should give the same content, but the superhero instead of Spider-Man should be called the The Night Monkey. This joke refers to a gag from Spider-Man: Far from home, where one of the characters came up with such a nickname for the hero.
It is worth adding that Sony is not the only company with which Square Enix has signed exclusive agreements. As discovered by JayShockblast channel, similar, although much more modest in size, contracts have been signed with several Internet providers (including Virgin Mobile and Verizon).
These agreements have also met with a negative response from the community, although dissatisfaction with them is much weaker. No wonder, after all, it's only about exclusive skins, not an additional character with unique challenges. Moreover, it is not known whether these alternative outfits will not be made available to all interested parties after some time.
Marvel's Avengers is coming to PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The launch is scheduled for September 4, this year. Further plans include ports to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. However, we will wait for these releases until next year. Interestingly, those who buy the PS4 or XONE version will be able to get improved editions for next-gen consoles for free.
