Review Bombing Cape From Helldivers 2 Will Definitely Hit the Game. Devs Are Simply Waiting for the Right Moment
Can a joke turn into a fact? Yes, if we're talking about Helldivers 2 and the Arrowhead developers' sense of humor.
Helldivers 2 has an interesting player base that will go to any lengths to fight for the freedom of Super Earth. Some time back, players' enthusiasm for battling hordes of Automatons and Terminids significantly waned, all because of Sony's requirement to connect the game account with a PSN account. This not only infuriated some fans but also excluded them based on their location.
The consequence of such actions was an obvious review bombing, which turned out to be so effective that the company simply had to give in to the furious players.
The cape is no longer a meme
If you have ever been curious about the opinion charts for games on Steam, you are aware that they depict the entire lifespan of the game, including its low points. Of course, that changes when players change their minds and switch their negative rating to a positive one and vice versa.
At one point, the chart of Helldivers 2 due to review bombing and subsequent return of positive ratings looked so interesting that one of the players decided to put it on a cape. The characteristic chart probably illustrated the worst period since the game's premiere in an interesting way.
The players' joke became a reality, and the studio's CEO, Johan Pilestedt, hinted on his Twitter/X account in May that a new cape was on its way to the game. The fact that it was already presenting review bombing may be evidenced by the long, distinctive red lines.
Studio waits for the right moment
More than a month has passed since the above photo was taken, and the cape eagerly awaited by players still hasn't made it into the game. It turns out that the piece of equipment is already ready, and as Johan Pilestedt himself points out, he reassures us that the studio is waiting for the right moment to implement it into the game.
At the moment, it's still unclear what the head of the studio is referring to as the appropriate moment. The situation with Sony has already been clarified but it's worth noting that many players are still offended at the publisher for forcing them to link their PlayStation accounts. Perhaps Arrowhead is waiting for the uncomfortable topic to die down completely, and the cape itself will probably end up in Helldivers 2 with one of the next updates.
