Returnal PC is Taking Shape; First Hands-on Reports
The PC version of Returnal seems increasingly certain. Its existence was confirmed by a Digital Foundry staff member. On top of that, everything indicates that the game will support Steam Deck.
More reports have appeared online about the oficially unannounced PC version of the hit shooter Returnal.
- On the ResetEra forum, a member of the Digital Foundry team confirmed, that he has seen Returnal running on PC.
- Attention is also drawn to an item in the Steam database, called Oregon. It is practically certain that this is a placeholder for the PC edition of Returnal. The changes made to this profile suggest that the PC release will be fully compatible with Steam Deck.
- It is worth adding that the reason why everyone is convinced that Oregon is Returnal, is the fact that phrases from this game appear in the localization data, and on top of that, its taglines (such as bullet hell or roguelike) fit this game perfectly.
The first rumors about the PC version appeared in September 2021.. At that time, a list of upcoming game that will be available as part of GeForce Now leaked onto the web, including Returnal. A few months later, gamers discovered the aforementioned profile of Oregon in Steam database.
Last month, in the results of a leak, we could see the first screenshots from the PC version of Returnal. And frequent updates in the Steam database suggest that work on the port is proceeding at a rapid pace.
Recall that Returnal debuted on PlayStation 5 in April 2021. The game turned out to be a major success, receiving, among others, the BAFTA award for best game of the year.
