Returnal Patch Deletes Save Files; Devs Apologise and Remove Update

Update 1.3.3 for Returnal was supposed to fix some major issues. However, it turned out that it causes error CE-100028-1, which corrupts saved game states.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Yesterday, Housemarque released update 1.3.3 for Returnal;
  2. Unfortunately, it quickly turned out that the patch irreversibly corrupts the saved game states.

After seeing the exceptionally good reviews of Returnal, devs at Housemarque quickly set about updating the game. Patch 1.3.3, released yesterday, was supposed to fix the most pressing problems, but it broke more than it fixed.

According to the official patch notes, the patch fixed, among other things, problems with unlocking trophies in some situations, game crashes, incorrect health regeneration on Helios and custom controller settings.

However, it was quickly reported that after the update, error CE-100028-1 started appearing and saved game states are getting corrupted. If someone didn't have a cloud copy created beforehand (and importantly, didn't overwrite it), they lost all progress. Housemarque confirmed the problem and has withdrawn the update from the server.

The devs apologized for the problems. Those who have downloaded the patch and encountered problems loading saved games are advised to completely remove the game from their console's hard drive and download it again or install it from the disc. Let's hope that the improved version of the patch will spare players the problems.
