Resident Evil Village Visual Comparison on PS5, PS4 and PS4 Pro
Several videos have surfaced online, showing the performance and visuals of the Resident Evil Village demo on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5 consoles.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- First visual comparison of Resident Evil Village on consoles is available;
- PS4: 900p, 45-60 fps;
- PS4 Pro: 1080p and 60 fps or 4K (Checkerboarding) and about 40 fps;
- PS5: 4K (Checkerboarding) and 60 fps or 4K (Checkerboarding), ray tracing and 45-60 fps.
The first visual comparison of Resident Evil Village on PlayStation 4 (base model), PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5 have appeared online, giving us an idea of what resolution and settings we can expect on each platform.
In the case of the basic PS4, the game runs at 1600x900, and the animation frame rate varies between 45-60. On the PS4 Pro we have two modes at our disposal. The first uses 4K resolution reconstructed with Checkerboarding and enables us to play at around 40 fps. In the case of the second mode, resolution is limited to 1080p, but we can play at a fairly stable 60 fps.
PS5, on the other hand, enables us to play with ray tracing on or off. In both cases, the resolution is the same (4K with checkerboarding), but by enabling real-time ray tracing we can expect additional visual effects. The price for this is the performance - after activating RT the number of fps drops below 60.
What is Checkerboarding?
Checkerboarding is a technique of image rendering, based on displaying only part of the image (usually 50%) - the rest is reconstructed using information from previous frames of animation. This allows for significant reduction of required computing powe and displaying more advanced graphics on a weaker platform.
