Update #2
Colin Moriarty brings new info (per Insider-Gaming). In a new podcast, he claims that the announcement of Red Dead Redemption's remaster could come as early as August. We can't help but keep our fingers crossed that it actually happens.
Update (July 3, 2023)
Insider Colin Moriarty, former IGN editor and now owner of Last Stand Media, took up the topic of a remaster of Red Dead Redemption. In an episode of the Sacred Symbols podcast, he confirmed that it is on the way, and an official announcement could come at any time. The podcast is only available to subscribers of Patreon Colin. Below we quote his statement:
"I can say that I have received confirmation that this is true. I don't think it's necessary, but someone contacted me behind the scenes and showed me something that definitely proves that this game is being made. It may even be announced soon, perhaps in August. It's not a big surprise - needless to say, the South Korean age rating commission doesn't rank products just like that. The body gives ratings to games that have actually been reported to them."
Original post (June 28, 2023)
Red Dead Redemption 2 is very often rated as one of the best games ever made. Many gamers would therefore like to know the story told in its predecessor, however Red Dead Redemption never made it beyond the PS3 and Xbox 360. Rumors of a possible remaster of the title have long been circulating online, as we we wrote them in the past. Now it turns out that the game has received a new age rating in South Korea, which may indeed mean that a remaster is on the way.
New rating for Red Dead Redemption
The new rating was issued on June 15 and bears the number CC-NV-230615-001. At this point it is worth noting that the "NV" designation indicates a console version. "NP", on the other hand, denotes a PC release, but PC gaming enthusiasts should not worry, as the console version does not necessarily exclude the one for PCs.
The news was reported by Gematsu, which also reported that the ratings for the original RDR, the Undead Nightmare Collection version and the GOTY Edition already existed, so we can conclude that this is indeed a new item - presumably a remaster.
Rockstar has remained silent for the time being, which shouldn't be surprising, since the developer rarely communicates its plans, but if a refreshed version of the first Red Dead Redemption will make its way to consoles, many fans will surely enjoy the opportunity to relive John Marston's story - or experience it for the first time.
