Red Dead Redemption Port Price is 'Commercially Accurate', Take-Two Chief Says
Strauss Zelnick believes that $50 is an accurate price for the announced Red Dead Redemption port. The head of Take-Two interactive also addressed the lack of a PC version.
Reports regarding the highly anticipated refresh of Red Dead Redemption have fired up not only fans of John Marston's adventures, but especially people who have not yet had the opportunity to play the game. However, it turned out that we would get not a remaster, but a simple port of this game intended for PS4 and Nintendo Switch. The lack of a PC version and the high price of $50 US disgusted the gamers. Some of these issues were addressed by the head of Take-Two Interactive, Strauss Zelnick.
Zelnick says $50 for RDR port is the right price
IGN asked the head of Take-Two Interactive why it was decided to price a port of a 13-year-old game at $50 US. Zelnick replied that according to the company, this is "a commercially accurate price.". The man also added bundled with Red Dead Redemption players will also receive the Undead Nightmare DLC.
“It [the DLC - ed, note] was a great standalone game in its own right when it was originally released so we feel like it's a great bundle for the first time, and certainly a great value for consumers.”
The lack of a PC version hurts a sizable group of gamers and seems incomprehensible, especially considering how popular Red Dead Redemption 2 is among PC users. Asked about the possibility of releasing the game on PC, Zelnick said it depends on the developers. Finally, the Take-Two boss also addressed the question of creating a port rather than a remaster.
"It depends on the vision that the creative teams have for a title, and in the absence of having a powerful vision, for something that we would do with a title, we might bring it in its original form, we've done that (...)"
Strauss Zelnick has a short memory
It is worth recalling the words of Take-Two Interactive's chief executive from 2021. At the time, Zelnick stated that their goal was never to create a simple port. During a conference on technology, media and communications organized by the US bank Morgan Stanley, he said:
"Refreshing older titles has always been present in our portfolio. We do it differently from our competitors, because we take the time to make the game different from its original version and adapt it to the new technology. We improve both the graphical and technical side, which is why, in my opinion, refreshed versions of our titles sell so well."
Finally, let us remind you that Red Dead Redemption version for PS4 and Nintendo Switch will debut on August 17.
