Red Dead Online Players Believe Rockstar Abandoned Them
Some players of Red Dead Onlines - Red Dead Redemption 2's online mode - believe that the developers from Rockstar Games have abandoned their production. The argument in favour of this thesis is that the game, released in 2018, receives less new content than GTA Online, which was launched a few years earlier. Frustrated users express their irritation by creating memes.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Some RDO players believe that the developers have abandoned their game;
- Users indicate that older GTA Online receives much more new content;
- Some people think this is because GTAO is generating more profits - others see this as a clever plan of Rockstar Games.
Red Dead Online players get the impression that the developers from Rockstar Games have abandoned their production. The title is updated less frequently than the older GTA Online and receives much less new content. On Reddit we can find numerous threads (often full of funny memes), in which users vent their frustration.
Lamentable state of RDR Online
The main problem is the poor condition of Red Dead Online. The fun is made difficult by bugs and problems that are not being repaired, even though they have been known for a long time.
"I really love the idea of RDO and what it offers but I don't think I've ever seen an online game receive so little support from its developer. And yeah I know, COVID-19 has got everything cocked up, but all of this has been going on since long before the virus. RDO sucks, but not nearly as much as Rockstar," complains bigblackcouch.
"If nothing changes with these ridiculous bugs and glitches on that patch then I'll know it's never gonna be fixed and move on. I live in hope, because I love the game but I don't want to waste anymore of my time on infinite loading screens and re-logging glitches sessions anymore. Three disconnects just to log in today and sell some feathers and make two toxic moonshine," describes baldbarry.
GTA Online is doing great
In contrast, GTA Online regularly receives new content and seems to be the apple in the eye of the British developer... as if it were a newer game than RDR Online.
"Annoys me how much attention they still give gta 5. Dont get me wrong ive spent alot of time in gta but surely rockstar has to start giving a shit about this game. You wouldn't think red dead was there latest release. Its like they've just give up with it," notes TheBarrowCasual.
"This game is just help to fund gta 6 if they really cared about the series there would be a red dead redemption 1 PC port," says psilocybecubensis666.
Some players have no doubt that the reason for this is that GTA Online is much more profitable than the online mode of Red Dead Redemption 2.
"RDO is dying because it is not generating the cash they were hoping for. Gold bars are useless and only used to buy roles and season passes (where you get your money back anyway), and no roles were added in months. RDO comes second when it comes to ressources. People need to be patient, especially now because of the pandemic," says Egenix.
Some believe that the behavior of Rockstar Games is part of a larger strategy and over time the developers will focus on Red Dead Online.
"I’ve heard theories that they’re going the same route with RDO as they did with GTAO. When next gen consoles release they’ll add something big the community has been asking for, like heists in GTA, and use that as a selling point to make $$ off of the new consoles. And all of us on previous gen stuff will get maybe another update or two and we’ll eventually be forgotten and our version of RDO will become outdated and R* will stop updating it. And then RDO will explode with new content on the next gen stuff and it will be a great game full of content while R* milks it and the player base for everything they have for years. Idk, just theories I’ve heard around and it seems pretty plausible as people inside R* have been vocal about things that will make their way in game soon enough," Hamburglar61 guesses.
