Quantum Break coming to Steam, will support DirectX 11 and Windows 7

Quantum Break will no longer require Windows 10 (or DirectX 12) to work. The “reworked” version of the game – that’s due for release on Steam and at Retail on September 14 – will run on Windows 7 and up, as long as they’re 64-bit.

Quantum Break breaks out of Windows 10, as Remedy Entertainment has just confirmed that their award-winning, time travel-themed action title will hit Steam and Retail on September 14. But wait, there’s even more news on the way, for the game will no longer require Windows 10 to work, which basically means it’s going to support DirectX 11 and every OS that’s capable of handling it (i.e. 64-bit versions of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10).

And so the question arises, ‘What caused such a complex, Microsoft-exclusive title to have its technological restrictions lifted so easily?’ It’s been answered by Remedy’s spokesperson, according to him all the developers have to say is that ‘they’ve been working on this release for a while.’ Also, ‘they got a lot more experience in shipping DX11 titles.’ Apart from that, however, not much has changed. System requirements, for instance, remain identical to those of the original release.

Will the game suffer from the “downgraded” release, though? Not at all; actually, quite the contrary, for the retail version will come with a Timeless Collector’s Edition (available for $40), which will include (as seen above):

  • Premium packaging;
  • 5 Game Discs (one-time Steam key redemption required);
  • Making of Blu-Ray;
  • Making of Book;
  • 1 Soundtrack CD (Audio-CD);
  • 2 Posters;
  • Quickstart Guide.
