Project Zomboid Gains New Life on Steam After 8 Years in Early Access

Project Zomboid got a new, better life on Steam. The title, which was played by an average of 3 thousand people at a time, attracted more than ten times as many. All thanks to the huge update called Build 41.

Available for over eight years as part of Early Access on Steam, Project Zomboid received a new life. The title, which until now attracted up to a few - on average about three - thousand people at the same time, suddenly became a hit on Valve's store, at one moment reaching over 35 thousand players at the same time. Thus, the survival sandbox from the independent studio The Indie Stone rose to the eighteenth place among the most popular games on Steam.

The reasons for this trend should be attributed to the huge updated called Build 41, which launched on December 20 and coincided with the Winter Sale on Steam that started yesterday. Within it, Project Zomboid can be purchased for only $10.04.

The aforementioned patch, the trailer of which you can watch below, introduces a lot of improvements, including changes in zombie behavior and balance and a lot of additional animations (such as climbing, sprinting, and sneaking). The update also brings a lot of new features, including the huge city of Louisville, new inventory and weapons, an improved tutorial, character creator and damage system, and 16 dedicated multiplayer servers. The full list of changes can be found here.

Does this mark the first big step in a very long time for Project Zomboid to leave Early Access? That remains to be seen. Now the developers from The Indie Stone face a more difficult task - to keep the players interested. However, if the developers have not given up after more than eight years of work - during which there was no shortage of unlucky events, such as the alpha version leaking to the Internet or theft of laptops containing the original source code - there is a chance that they will deliver their game all the way to the still-unannounced release date.
