Playing F2P The Sims 4 is Torture, Fans Claim
The price of the free The Sims 4 with all DLCs exceeds $1000. Internet users are not satisfied with the gift from Maxis and praise the previous part of the series, released 13 years ago.
The Sims 4's switch to F2P model has undoubtedly served its purpose - the game has attracted new players. The problem is that the strategy chosen by Maxis upset old fans and failed to impress new ones.
New reviews of The Sims 4 and free gameplay for a while
The second week of free access to The Sims 4 has begun. The pool of active players is slowly declining (via SteamDB), and the number of negative comments in various corners of the Internet is increasing.
Just a few hours ago Reddit users started a new discussion on the subpage about everything related to Steam, about the true price of the F2P Sims. The opinions are not flattering.
"The game is free if you like not doing anything," wrote user Poyri35
The biggest problem highlighted by Internet users at every turn is the very limited amount of opportunities and activities offered by the basic version of the game.. The content of this version, in their opinion, is only enough for a while, and if you want to continue playing, it's hard not to consider buying DLCs.
"Free gameplay - more like a free start," claims user InsomniacSpartan.
Paid The Sims 3 cheaper than F2P The Sims 4
Reviewing the various discussions on changes in policy, it's hard not to pay attention to the enormity of apt comparisons of the game to its predecessor.
"The only reason to play the basic version of The Sims 4 is to torture your Sims, especially since you can buy all of the content for The Sims 3 at the price of a regular AAA title. It's still not great, but The Sims 3 is a much better game," claims user TheMaskedImp
It is worth remembering that The Sims 3 from 2009 remains a paid game until now, and it does not promise to move to free-to-play model.. At the moment, the basic version of The Sims 3 costs less than $20. The game also offers 19 paid DLCs (at the same price). None of them are currently discounted.
In turn, The Sims 4 has as many as 58 different types of DLCs on Steam, which, without any discounts, cost almost $1000. Some of them are just items of clothing or furniture, but some offer gameplay elements that were included in the basic version of the previous installments.
"The Sims 5 will get even worse. Get ready for a monthly subscription. If you look at all the DLCs with their release dates and original prices you can see that the developers have been testing how much they can charge and how often they can release them," notes user Skarvha
The total price of the DLCs according to Internet users clearly shows why the developers decided to release the basic version of the game for free - it was only a small percentage of the title's revenue, and its availability to everyone is likely to encourage new players to purchase additional content.
Frightening prices of DLCs for The Sims 4 were a known problem in the fan community for years, but with the influx of new players, more and more people are becoming aware of it. Only time will tell if users who were attracted by the free starter will buy the DLCs, as Maxis hopes, or turn off the game after a few hours totally disgusted.
