Players Pretend to be Belgian to Trick Apex Legends
Apex Legends players are pretending to be Belgian to trick Respawn's game into giving them crafting resources instead of some loot boxes.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- The recently released season pass for Apex Legends offers loot boxes with random content;
- Some players have found a way to get crafting materials instead of loot boxes;
- The trick requires them to change their Origin location setting to Belgium.
Rock, Paper, Shotgun reports that players who have bought the battle pass in a battle royale shooter Apex Legends, have found a way to replace the randomly generated prizes (contained in loot boxes) with materials needed to craft items. This enables them to avoid having to rely on blind luck - they have control over what they'll get in drops. In order to achieve such a result, it is enough.... to claim to be Belgian.
This is possible because Belgian law prohibits certain types of paid loot boxes, so the inhabitants of this country play using a slightly different progression system. To put it simply: Belgians receive fewer rewards for progressing their battle pass than users from other countries, but in return, they can choose what they get. It should be noted that loot boxes in Apex Legends contain only cosmetic items.
To "dress up as Belgian", just change your location in the settings of Origin client (players playing on other hardware platforms than PC can try tinkering in the console settings, but it is hard to say if it will bring similar effects). It's worth noting that the trick will also work if we use it after buying the pass. The trick alters only the contents of loot boxes that are part of the pass - the rest, awarded for ordinary progress in the game, functions according to normal rules (because you don't have to pay for them).
Unfortunately, it seems quite likely that Electronic Arts will look for a solution that will prevent the use of similar tricks - the loot boxes awarded within the battles pass are supposed to encourage the players to spend more money on the usual loot boxes, which "false Belgians" will most likely not do. Let's hope that the cure will not be worse than the disease, and the sudden increase in the number of "Belgian players" will not have a negative impact on the real inhabitants of this country.
Apex Legends launched on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on February 4. The game turned out to be a big hit, attracting tens of millions of players. The season pass for the title was made available a few days ago and costs 980 Apex coins (or 2800 coins if you want to unlock the first 25 levels).
