Path of Exile devs spoke out on first installment's future. „The problem is, we were fooling ourselves”
The release of PoE 2 has not been unaffected by the first installment. The developers made an official announcement, which was met with a mixed reception from players.

Even before the release of Path of Exile 2, Grinding Gear Games studio promised that the development of the first installment wouldn't be stopped. Both games were supposed to receive regular updates, but the current league in the first part - Settlers of Kalguur - started back in July last year, which some fans aren't happy about. The game developers have therefore published a special video in which they talked about the future of Path of Exile.
What about the new league in Path of Exile?
Jonathan Rogers, director of PoE, admitted that managing two games at once turned out to be more difficult than they expected. The ideal time to release the new league should have been in October, however, due to the release of PoE 2, this was impossible to do. Then December and January were also excluded - due to too short a time interval and Christmas.
In the end, February was chosen, which the developer wasn't very pleased with, as it meant no new league for a full seven months. However, there was no other choice, especially since the team working on PoE 1 was helping with the development of PoE 2. The developers were confident they would meet the deadline and reassured themselves they had enough time, but the reality was entirely different.
The problem is, we were fooling ourselves. Path of Exile 2 was delayed three weeks, making the problem even worse.
Following the launch of PoE 2, it demanded so much work that the developers were unable to concentrate on creating a new league, and they are still working on improving the sequel. This means that until the release of the 0.2.0 update and a few weeks after it, they won't be working on PoE 1. Unfortunately, at the moment, the developers are not able to give any specific date. Rogers apologized for the whole situation.
Honestly, I should have predicted the fact that taking the team off Path of Exile 1 would lead to this outcome, and I probably should have resisted doing it. But at every stage I just kept thinking, we still have time, we still have time. And then we didn't have time anymore.
Players' reactions
Player opinions are strongly divided. Some of them expressed understanding for the studio, which undertook the very difficult task of developing two games at once. They also value the developers' transparency, as they didn't ignore the issue and openly communicated about the situation.
I appreciate the transparency, and the decision makes sense in these circumstances, even if it's sad to hear.
I think that even a broader release window for the 0.2.0 update or some information about upcoming content would help.
On the other hand, some players expressed dissatisfaction and frustration, especially those who didn't like the second installment. However, it's hard to blame them, as the devs had previously assured that the development of PoE 2 wouldn't affect PoE 1, which, as we now know, turned out to be false.
Imagine being me, who paid for both PoE 1 and PoE 2 because we were told PoE 2 would not impact PoE 1. Then this is how we get treated. No more monye from me.
As a consolation, Rogers conveyed that they already have a solid plan for the new league, and in their spare time, some developers will deal with its pre-production. Nonetheless, this still means that PoE 1 fans have to be patient, as they will have to wait a bit longer for the new content.
