Path of Exile 2 Delayed by Three Weeks for Technical Reasons. „This One's Totally on Me, I'm Really Sorry. This One Really Hurts”

Path of Exile 2's early access has been delayed by three weeks. The problem is the microtransaction sharing feature between the first part and the second.

I come with very sad news for all hack'n'slash fans who are eagerly awaiting the debut of Path of Exile 2. Grinding Gear Games has just announced a delay in the premiere of the game's early access. Originally, it was supposed to start on November 15, but this date was postponed by three weeks - we will be able to play only from December 6.

PoE 2 Early access delayed

The game director, Jonathan Rogers, explains the reason for this decision in the above video. The problem lies in the "work on server-side infrastructure", which is taking the creators longer than they expected. This specifically refers to microtransactions, which are to be shared between PoE and PoE 2.

"One of the key promises we made is that all microtransactions will work in PoE 1 and 2. To do this, we need to integrate account systems not only for PoE 1 and 2, but also for consoles. It means changing many things. Not only do we need to create many new systems, but we also need to ensure that all old data is backward compatible."

This situation created numerous logistical problems, and the creators found "all kinds of strange demons" in them during data migration. We are talking here about accounts with the same names, email addresses, or even Steam IDs. For this reason, the creators need a bit more time to ensure that players do not lose the things they have paid for.

"It's completely my fault, I apologize. It really hurts."

As a consolation, Rogers said that in about four weeks the studio will host a special stream during which Path of Exile 2 Early Access content will be showcased. It is also worth reminding that it will not be available for free to everyone.
