Outriders Devs Suprized by Game's Popularity but There are Some Technical Issues
On the launch day, the latest game of People Can Fly - Outriders - was played by almost 112 thousand people at the same time. However, players complain about problems with connection, which resulted in the game's average score on Steam dropping to „Mixed”.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- Outriders recorded a successful debut - almost 112,000 people played the title at the hottest moment yesterday;
- This is the best result in the history of the publisher Square Enix and a big success for the Polish studio People Can Fly;
- Reviews of the game are mixed, but players complain mainly about connection problems.
Yesterday, Outriders from People Can Fly and publisher Square Enix debuted on the market. It seems that both companies can talk about a big success - the game immediately jumped into the top 10 best-selling titles on Steam and attracted a large number of players. As shown by the data collected by SteamDB, in the best moment of yesterday nearly 112 thousand people played it simultaneously (twice as many as decided to check the free demo).
As editors of PCGamesN point out, these are the best activity stats on Steam in the history of games by the Japanese publisher. In second place, with 52.4 thousand, is the hybrid of FPS and RPG genres - Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. The difference between this title and Outriders is really big.
Slightly less impressive are the game's user reviews on Steam - only 57% of more than 3.4 thousand players considered the title to be good. However, even in this case we can see some positives, because the vast majority of those who complained about it highlighted the problems with connection, which - however sad and annoying it may be - are already a kind of norm in the first days after launches of large online games (and in the case of Outriders, they may to some extent prove that the scale of the game's success surprised the developers). Criticism of gameplay ideas and solutions happens much less frequently.
However, it's worth remembering that Outriders is a looter shooter (a network shooter with RPG elements), and in this genre, the ultimate success is determined by the game's long-term development plan. Time will tell if the developers will manage to keep the players entertained for longer, or if their creation will follow in the footsteps of such titles as Anthem or Marvel's Avengers.
In addition to PC, Outriders is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S consoles.
