Outlast 2 postponed to Q1 2017
Outlast 2 will not be out this fall as originally planned. Instead, the upcoming survival horror from indie studio Red Barrels will arrive in early 2017.
We won’t be seeing Outlast 2 this fall after all. The sequel to one of the most frightening survival horrors of the recent years has been officially delayed to early 2017. The developers at Red Barrels explained that they made this decision, because they felt they need a bit more time to make the game reach its full potential and deliver a worthy successor to the first Outlast. In a Facebook post they wrote:
We want you to know that we listen to your feedback, we see your excitement and we know you care about our work. Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible. That’s why we’re taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve.
While the events in the original Outlast were taking place in an asylum in Colorado, Outlast 2 is going to introduce a new story set somewhere in rural parts of Arizona. The inspiration for its plot was the Jonestown Massacre of 1978, when over 900 members of the Peoples Temple sect were convinced to commit suicide by the group’s leader Jim Jones. In the game you will play as a journalist, Blake Langermann. Together with his wife Lynn he decides to investigate a mysterious suicide of a pregnant woman. However, as their helicopter crashes, Blake discovers that Lynn went missing. Armed only with his camera, the man has to face mind-twisting horrors in order to find his wife.
