OnePlus 8 Pro Will no Longer be Able to See Through Clothes
OnePlus 8 Pro users haven't enjoyed Photochrome for too long. The creators intend to withdraw it in the next update.
The special feature offered by the new OnePlus 8 Pro has caused a lot of confusion. Using an appropriate filter available on the smartphone, which was created for creative photography, with a completely different color composition, we can see through selected objects. Of course, the material we want to look through must be thin enough. And that didn't appeal to many people who were afraid of potential privacy violations.
Of course, the camera did not allow for ruthless scanning of everything around. The effect was not very spectacular, but it was possible to see what was behind some materials, as one of the creators showed on YouTube.
OnePlus decided to act quickly and published an entry informing about an incoming system update.
"Over the last few days, there has been a lot of discussion about the capabilities of the color filter camera on the OnePlus 8 Pro. Many users and media have talked about the unique photos you can take with it, but some have also raised questions about its capabilities to see through certain materials.
While we think this camera gives users the ability to get more creative with smartphone photography, we also understand the concerns that have been raised. Therefore, we are already working on an OTA that we’ll push out in the coming weeks to offer the Photochrom filter while limiting other functionality that may be of concern."
The filter was temporarily disabled in HydrogenOS, while in OxygenOS it still works. Where did this decision come from? Various versions of HydrogenOS are most popular in China and that's where most of the voices of concerned people appeared. OnePlus informs that they want to focus on the update, which is expected to appear in the coming weeks and therefore they have not blocked the filter on the global system - Oxygen OS.
How does this work?
Here's a quick explanation how Photochrom works in One Plus 8 Pro. The whole thing is based on infrared waves. The fourth camera of this smartphone works in a specific way - going beyond the standard visible spectrum, it collects light invisible to the human eye that would be unwanted and simply cut off on standard photo devices. After proper processing of the photo by a filter we get a slightly surreal effect. It is through the attachment of the infrared spectrum to the photo that we are able to see through selected objects with the camera. Remote controls, AppleTV or game controllers are presented on many tests on the web. These are devices that are made of thin materials that let the rays through. Infrared also enables signals from devices like game controllers to communicate with the console/PC.
We don't know how OnePlus wants to get rid of the problem noticed by the users. Whether it will introduce a special algorithm or eventually remove the Photochrom filter. We can only wait for the update.
