Impressive Mo-cap Footage of Apex Legends' Resident Madman Octane

A behind-the-scenes video presenting a mo-cap session for Apex Legends character Octane has surfaced online. As you can see for yourself, capturing the animation for this character was incredibly fun for everyone involved.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. Actor lending his body movements to Octane, a character from Apex Legends - shared some behind-the-scenes footage from the motion capture process on Twitter;
  2. The video has gained quite a bit of popularity, both on Twitter and Reddit.

The enduringly popular Apex Legends gives players a wide range of options when it comes to choosing their avatar. At the moment, there are 17 playable characters - so-called Legends. Among them we can find Octane, an expressive character with somewhat unbalanced personality. Now we can see how his animations were created thanks to the footage uploaded to Twitter by Shawn Wilson - the actor lending his body movements to Octane.

During the two-minute recording we can see how the characteristic moves, attacks and finishers were created. On a split screen, we also see the end result - how the animation was implemented in the game. Octane's motion capture was a hilarious process, with Wilson's stunts drawing laughs from both the actor and his crew.

The footage was also posted on Reddit, where the Apex Legends community couldn't get enough of Wilson's skills:

"That's the wild thing. The guys is able to go against his dancing/stunt/martial arts training and instead finds a way to imitate the character in a way, that is not his regular way of acting. He basically becomes Octane, but the making off shows that it is not an easy task at all."

"I didn't even think about it. Like the voice actors have to mentally get into character but these guys [mo-cap actors - ed. note] have to become the character."

Apex Legends has 16 more equally interesting characters, so we look forward to seeing more of this type of interesting behind-the-scenes footage. May they bring viewers the kind of fun that Shawn Wilson's team had while working on Octane.
