Obsidian Entertainment is working on a new game
Project North Carolina, that was being developed by Obsidian some time ago is alive in different form.
First rumors of the secret North Carolina project surfaced in March 2012, when Obsidian Entertainment fired 30 of its employees. The reason for that was the cancellation of the abovementioned title – nothing is known about it, other than the fact that the game was supposed to be an Xbox One exclusive. Seven months into the development process however, Microsoft decided to pull out from the cooperation, causing the developer to struggle with financial issues. The team tried to remedy the situation by launching a crowdfunding project known as Project Eternity (later renamed to Pillars of Eternity). Three years later, it appears that the creators haven’t forgotten about the game they were forced to abandon – there are many signs pointing at a development that the game may yet see the light of day, albeit in somewhat different form.
The source of this information is Feargus Urquhart, one of the founders and CEO at Obsidian Entertainment. As he revealed during a video-interview for Game Informer, after the development of North Carolina was officially cancelled, Obsidian Studios took several attempts to interest a different publisher with this project, all of them to no avail. Not long ago, however, a company was found, which would be willing to take care of a new game from the developers of Fallout: New Vegas. The details remain undisclosed, although it is known that the game will most likely stray from the original build. Which means we can hope to see it on more than just Xbox Box – PC and PlayStation 4 versions may follow as well. According to Urquhart, we can expect an official announcement in the coming months.
