Nvidia Reduced the Price of GeForce RTX 2060
Nvidia has decided to lower the price of the reference model of GeForce RTX 2060, which means custom designs will get cheaper as well. Nvidia's move is related to the upcoming release of the competing Radeon RX 5600 XT.
According to Wccftech, Nvidia has officially lowered the price of GeForce RTX 2060, the cheapest Turing-based chipset with hardware ray tracing support. The new price of the reference model is $299, but products created by other companies can be purchased at even lower prices (a good example is RTX 2060 KO from EVGA, which we recently mentioned).
The price reduction is undoubtedly a reaction to the moves of the competition, more specifically, the announcement of Radeon RX 5600 XT, which took place at CES 2020. The AMD chipset will hit store shelves next week and is to be sold at exactly the same price as the aforementioned RTX 2060 variant from EVGA - 279 dollars. This may put AMD's product in a pretty bad spot, because 2060 is a faster card than RX 5600 XT and more technologically advanced (ray tracing, DLSS).
Now, let's see if AMD's answer will be to lower the price of the new Navi? The same was done last year when Nvidia pre-empted the launch of Radeons RX 5700 and 5700 XT, introducing Super variants of several of its cards. This would be a logical move that would give the new GPU a fighting chance against the competition. Of course, we, the customers, can benefit most from a battle between the two companies. The free market is a great thing, right?
