No Head Bug CS:GO Has Been Haunting Players for a Year Now

Bizarre bugs in CS:GO are nothing new, but this one makes the players lose their heads. And it's been in the game on for nearly a year.

While one of the most popular online shooters of all time, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is known for its fair share of bugs in the gaming community. Unfortunately, Valve is also known for its slow pace in fixing bugs, as seen in the case of a dangerous exploit, which remained in the game for two years.

The bug discussed today is not as dangerous, but certainly much more bizarre and equally slowly fixed. This is a bug, that causes character models in CS:GO to... lose their heads.

Players have been reporting a long-standing glitch that causes character model heads to disappear during matches. The first reports of its existence appeared nearly a year ago.

To make matters worse, the bug is not limited to a single round - often players had to wait until the change of sides (15 rounds) for the situation to return to normal.

During this time, the player had to face a considerable difficulty. As you know, accurate aiming and recoil control are key factors when it comes to shooting in CS:GO. Aiming at decapitated opponents certainly doesn't make the task any easier.

Luckily, even though you can't see it, the head of the character model is physically in the game all the time, so the good old headshot is still possible.

Valve and the lack of hotfixes

Despite the fact that the bug has been known about for a long time, as shown by Reddit user Common-Market-2396, it is still present in CS:GO.

Where does the bug even come from? As it turns out, head disappearance in character models is nothing new in Valve's games. A similar issues was previously experienced by Portal 2 and Dota 2 players. The bug was said to be related to the incorrect loading of character models in relation to the skin upload process, which was common especially in the case of Valve's MOBA, where each of the playable characters has multiple skins to choose from.

While the bug doesn't happen often, it's very annoying for a shooter that relies so heavily on reflexes and a keen eye. It seems unlikely that the developers aren't aware of the problem - perhaps it's not currently at the top of the hotfix priority list. Let's hope that sooner or later Valve will decide to introduce a proper patch.
