Nintendo Will Upgrade Switch - Bigger OLED and 4K Maybe Later This Year

As Bloomberg reporters have learned, Nintendo plans to refresh its console later this year. The new Nintendo Switch model is expected to get a 7-inch OLED and a video output that transmits 4K video to our TV.

NEW SWITCH WILL OFFER:
  • 7-inch display with 720p resolution'
  • Output to pass 4K video to your TV;
  • Likely support for DLSS technology.

It's safe to say that the Nintendo Switch swept the console market clean last year. However, fans are starting to worry about the lack of any hardware improvements over previous years. Will their worries be allayed by a new console model, tentatively named Nintendo Switch Pro, whose release may be closer than we think?

According to information obtained by Bloomberg reporters, the new Nintendo Switch is expected to hit the market in late 2021, just before Christmas. It will be equipped with a 7-inch OLED manufactured by Samsung, which can be counted as a plus. Unfortunately, the resolution will remain at 720p. Despite the lack of 1080p, the OLED will be an improvement over its predecessor. Yoshio Tamura, president of display company DSCC, assured on Bloomberg:

"The OLED panel will use less battery, offer higher contrast, and likely faster response times compared to the current LCD display found on the Switch."

In addition, the Nintendo Switch Pro is expected to receive a video output capable of transmitting 4K video to our TV, which would make quite a difference from the current 1080p, which often looks poor on large TVs. This step will enable the handheld console to catch up with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X in terms of image resolution.

It is also possible that it will support NVIDIA's DLSS technology, significantly increasing performance. This information was provided by an industry insider on ResetEra.

If these reports turn out to be true, then Nintendo Switch Pro may turn out to be a sales hit at the end of 2021 and become the most popular gaming Christmas gift.
