Next-gen Update Broke The Witcher 3 on PC; Flood of Negative Reviews
The long-awaited next-gen update for The Witcher 3 has finally made its debut. Unfortunately, not everyone feels similar pleasure from playing the improved classic. It turns out that owners of the PC version of the game are experiencing big problems.
Today, owners of the original version of The Witcher 3 were given the opportunity to install the free next-gen update for the game, which was supposed to breathe new life into CD Projekt RED's iconic title. Meanwhile, it turns out that instead of celebrating, the developers have to fix the considerable mess the update caused in the PC version of Wild Hunt.
The web was flooded with negative comments from players, who, since the update, have been experiencing considerable problems with the game's performance of . The dissatisfaction of the community is most noticeable on the game's card on Steam, where there is a massive increase in negative reviews, and the most frequently appearing term is the word "unplayable".
"Before the update I could reach 160 fps, now I can't get to 60. LOL. CD Projekt strikes back," wrote ThisHurtsYou
"The game crashes on every launch and is completely unplayable. Will update if they fix the problem," reports RuDaKir
"[...] The new graphics update just makes the performance worse, making it impossible to even use the RTX they advertised in this new update," claims DeathBun
"One of the best games I've ever played until today, December 14, when the next-gen update came out. Now my game crashes even on low graphics settings, because CDPR decided that an already excellent game needs to look better. Right now I'm pissed because I can't continue hunting for achievements and I can't find a way to restore the previous version (if anyone knows how, please email me). I have an RTX 3070 Ti and an i9 CPU. I should not have such problems. For God's sake, CDPR, get a grip," complains Papi Stone
"It doesn't work anymore. Clearly you have saboteurs in your company. Also consider not firing all experienced guys who have any knowledge, and hiring incompetent clowns instead...," ridicules Terra
The situation is similar on the official Twitter of The Witcher 3.
"Sorry CDPR, but your update needs fixing. Terrible performance on PC (12700k 3080)."
"Ray tracing causes crashes and fps to drop to numbers lower than before the update, DLSS or FSR don't do much either. The game looks even more amazing now, but at what cost?," asks InkSoul
"Please release an update for PC, the game is terribly optimized, stutters, drops to 30 fps, GPU and CPU usage seems to be off as well, just look at the latest Steam reviews. I have more frames per second in games that look 3 times better than this," reports Young Pablo
Let us emphasize that these are just a few selected messages among the vastness of such comments. Unfortunately, the problems in many cases are not even fixed by disabling the additional "hardware-intensive" features.
So far, CD Projekt RED has not issued any statement on the troublesome update. Thus, it is unknown when the developers will deal with the complications. For PC users who absolutely want to get back into the game, the only option left for the moment is to roll back The Witcher 3 to a previous version in the "beta" tab on Steam.
