News on Dark Fantasy RPG From Rebel Wolves: 'Work is Proceeding Smoothly'
Made up of CD Projekt veterans, Rebel Wolves is still working on its debut big-budget RPG. The developers are very pleased with the progress they have made.
In February 2022, the industry media heard the information that the director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, along with the team of the newly founded Rebel Wolves, is working on a high-budget dark fantasy RPG. Unfortunately, since then, players waiting for details about the project have not been particularly spoiled by the developers (the next and so far last update comes from November last year and concerns the support given to the team by the Chinese company NetEase). Not surprisingly, some gamers started asking questions about the future of the studio.
So we decided to contact Rebel Wolves and ask about the progress of the aforementioned game. In response, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz assured us that the RPG's development is proceeding smoothly. The developers have already completed the pre-production process and the game is currently at the early alpha stage.
"Work on our title is going really well, and together with the team we are very pleased not only with the progress, but also with the atmosphere in which our debut game is being developed. We have already completed pre-production, we are at the early alpha stage. A very large part of the game is already designed, and the number of implemented systems, quests, assets, etc. enables us to assess where we are and test playing our title on an ongoing basis," explains the former CD Projekt employee.
Despite the progress of work Rebel Wolves is "in no hurry to officially present the game." It is expected to happen only when its "several-hour build" is ready. We also learned that the developers are very pleased with the reception of the title by external testers.
"However, we are not in a hurry to officially present the game. We will do so only when it can be presented not only through a so-called "hands-off demo," but primarily in the form of a several-hour long build; that is, exactly how thoroughbred open-world RPGs with a focus on narrative should be experienced.
However, I can add that our partners from all over the world are getting acquainted with the game on an ongoing basis, and we are very pleased with its reception," he added.
The future of Polish gamedev is painted in interesting colors not only by Rebel Wolves, but also by Blank. studio, which was also founded by former employees of CD Projekt. Blank. announced a recent partnership with South Korean company Neowiz, which was responsible for, among other things, the publication of the soulslike Lies of P. The injection of cash from the investors will certainly help in the development of their debut project - a narrative post-apocalyptic game.
